Prep football: Denfeld, East notch rare victories
 
Duluth Denfeld and Duluth East’s football teams won Friday, the first time both were victorious on the same night since Sept. 9, 2011.

The Hunters’ Jake Herold rushed for 157 yards and scored three touchdowns in Denfeld’s 27-20 victory over Proctor at Public Schools Stadium in the teams’ first meeting since 2005.

Denfeld (1-4), which snapped a 14-game losing streak, jumped to an early lead when Jake Roduner hit Kadin Ferguson with a 70-yard scoring pass.

The Rails’s Jake Malec connected with John Aase for a 17-yard scoring strike before Blake Koski’s two-point run evened matters at 8-8.

Herold took over from there, scoring on runs of 10, 2 and 1 yard over the final three quarters in the Northeast Red district game.

Roduner finished 8-of-14 passing with 182 yards passing while Ferguson hauled in four passes for 101 yards for the Hunters.

Malec threw for 154 yards while completing 9 of 18 passes for Proctor, while Aase finished with four catches for 94 yards.
