Robert Van Kleek

Bob Van Kleek was the senior class president who turned over the first dirt (with others) when ground was broken in 1925 for the new Denfeld High School. He taught at Denfeld from 1932 to 1946, was Minnesota Councilor of the Year in 1960 and served as Denfeld’s sixth principal from 1963 to 1970.

Van Kleek also had great success as debate coach, producing many future attorneys and professionals. He took pride that many stayed in touch with him his entire life. He remained very active in the West Duluth community and in his church where a scholarship is awarded annually in his name.
